SmartClean provides end to end digital cleaning solutions which use the power of IoT and AI to enable data-driven cleaning. The sensors collect real-time data that is then pushed out to our cloud where the data is processed by Optimus, our AI engine, for automated alerting and real-time analytics.
Our AI engine, Optimus, is the brain of the whole system. It uses advanced machine learning algorithms that learn from the facility’s historical data as well as real-time sensor data for anomaly prediction, dynamic thresholding, and alerting. In the case of anomalies, Optimus correlates multiple data points and runs pattern recognition to optimize the alerting process.
Our existing systems can monitor accurately the usage of the facility, odour which includes multiple gases; Liquid Spillages; Usage of Consumables such a liquid soap, paper towels, bins; and User Satisfaction.
At SmartClean, we are building solutions for cleanliness monitoring of the complete facility and are constantly adding features and mechanisms to our existing solution. Our current solution is being used for washrooms, Lobby, Cafeteria, and Elevators, etc.
All our sensors are smaller than handheld devices and are mounted on the false ceiling without the requirement of any major modifications.
The dispenser sensors are miniature coin-sized sensors that are mounted inside the existing dispensers without the need to replace the dispensers currently in use.
The sensors collect real-time data on a minute by minute basis with the exception of the dispenser sensors, which relay data every 10-15 minutes based on the configuration at the time of onboarding.
The sensors are designed to have a life of at least 5 years under normal operating conditions and maintenance.
The dispenser sensors have a batterylife of around 2-3 years and it is recommended to replace the sensor after that period.
a) Air Quality– For a ventilated toilet, each sensor can easily monitor 4-5 cubicles/WCs. Hence. one sensor is enough for a normal-sized washroom
b) People Counter– The sensor is placed at the entrance and can cover a 2m x 2m area. Hence, 1 sensor is enough for a washroom with a single entrance.
c) Wetness Sensor– At a false ceiling height of 3 m, these sensors can cover an area of around 3mx3m. Hence, 1 sensor is enough for the basin area or the urinal area.
d) Dispenser/Bin Sensor– The sensor can sense up to a depth of 20 cm. Hence, when placed at the top surface inside a dispenser/bin, the sensor can measure the fill level accurately.
The Air Quality/Odour sensor measures a range of gases to holistically measure the odour levels, i.e., the smelliness inside a washroom. Gases such as Ammonia generated from human waste, e.g. Urine or Cleaning solutions; VOCs - Volatile Organic compounds from Aerosols and other atmospheric gases like Carbon Monoxide and Nitrogen Dioxide.
Our system works on dynamic thresholding instead of static thresholding to determine the tolerable limits for each unit. This approach takes into account that every toilet is unique in terms of its characteristics - its location, shape, size, ventilation, and seasonal variations, etc., and, hence, has a unique odour level.
We use low-power IoT sensors that consume less than 1W per sensor.
The dispenser sensor is powered by a battery that has an estimated life of 2-3 years depending on the ping rate.
Each sensor can independently communicate using Wi-Fi and push data using MQQT. The dispenser/bin sensors are battery-powered that communicate using BLE Bluetooth and communicate with the Wetness sensor or a Gateway to push data.
The Wetness sensor uses high-end thermal radiometric analysis, i.e., it measures around 20,000 temperature values of the floor and uses temperature gradient analysis & data analytics to determine if there is any spillage on the basin or floor.
The underlying principle is that the spilled fluid has a temperature difference compared to the floor, and upon spillage, it cools down or heats up to attain the floor temperature.
SmartClean’s SmartToilet+ solution is being used across varied types of properties including Offices, Retail Complexes, Hospitals, Public Spaces, etc.
On average our projects have been able to drive productivity by at least 30%, achieving a positive ROI in both low labour cost markets like India and high labour cost markets like Singapore while driving up the overall level of hygiene and user experience.

We have successfully integrated our solution with existing BMS systems used by some of our clients over SmartClean's cloud infrastructure. We have done such system integration projects with Johnson control, L&T Technology Services etc.
In cases where cleaners do not use smartphones, SMS text-based alert can be used for alerting purposes.
